Lika – Karlovac
-
Region of Lika-Karlovac is located in central part of Croatia, connecting the coast with the county’s continental part. This Croatian region is a harmony of nature and tradition. It is characterized by beautiful green land, only ten kilometers from the sea. It is a place of culture and tradition, and as many visitors already learned, leisure is also not difficult to find. After all, Karlovac is home to one of Croatia’s largest beer breweries, as well as the home for Croatia’s most popular and the oldest National Park- Plitvice Lakes.
It is interesting to note that in older times, people living in coastal Croatia went to Lika for summer vacation. Being a mountainous region, it had much friendlier air temperatures, and its gastronomy was able to match the best delicacies coming from Adriatic Sea. Velebit littoral is a part of this region, and it spans from Novi Vinodolski, all the way south to the island of Pag. In between stands Senj, a small fishermen town known for strong northeastern wind Bura which is a common occurrence in Senj, but also for the 45. Parallel that passes through. Velebit mountain range separates the Mediterranean climate from the continental climate, and is one of the main causes of the strong wind Bura, especially in winter. Velebit is under protection of UNESCO since 1978.
From adrenaline parks to softball terrains, from animal shelters protecting bear families to museum dedicated to Nikola Tesla (who was born in Lika) the region is rich in options for entertainment and education.
